Our Commitment
Dorsey Family Dental is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to achieve these goals.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) (opens in new tab) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Dorsey Family Dental is fully conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Fully conformant means that the content fully conforms to the accessibility standard without any exceptions.
Technical Specifications
Accessibility of this website relies on the following technologies:
- HTML5 with ARIA landmark roles and attributes
- CSS with custom properties for theming and reduced-motion support
- Vanilla JavaScript with keyboard and focus management
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
Measures Taken
Dorsey Family Dental takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- Every page includes a skip navigation link as the first focusable element
- All images have descriptive alternative text; decorative images use empty
alt=""attributes - Color contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and UI components
- All interactive elements are keyboard operable, including dropdown navigation menus and forms
- Focus indicators are visible and meet WCAG 2.4.13 requirements (3px minimum, 3:1 contrast ratio)
- The page language is programmatically identified with
lang="en" - All form fields have visible, persistent labels with required fields clearly indicated
- Error messages are specific, associated with their fields via
aria-describedby, and conveyed in text — never color alone - No CAPTCHA is used; spam prevention relies entirely on server-side honeypot detection (WCAG 3.3.8)
- All page animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionuser preference — animations are disabled entirely when this setting is active - All touch targets meet the 44×44px minimum recommended size (WCAG 2.5.8)
- The site reflows to a single column at 320px viewport width without horizontal scrolling or loss of content (WCAG 1.4.10)
- Text can be resized up to 200% without content or functionality loss (WCAG 1.4.4)
- ARIA live regions announce dynamic content changes to screen reader users (WCAG 4.1.3)
- Expandable content sections (e.g. doctor biographies, table of contents) use native
<details>/<summary>elements — keyboard accessible and screen reader compatible without JavaScript - All star rating elements use
role="img"witharia-labelproviding the numeric rating to assistive technologies - External links are identified with visible indicators and a screen reader announcement "(opens in new tab)"
- Scroll-triggered animations fire once and stop; they do not loop or auto-play continuously
- All embedded maps (iframes) include a descriptive
titleattribute - Navigation dropdowns use
aria-expanded,aria-controls, and keyboard arrow navigation
Assessment Approach
Dorsey Family Dental assessed the accessibility of this website using the following approaches:
- Automated testing — pa11y accessibility audits on all 35+ pages
- PageSpeed Insights — Google Lighthouse accessibility audit scored 100/100
- W3C CSS Validation — CSS validated as CSS Level 3 + SVG with zero errors
- Manual keyboard testing — full site navigation without a mouse across all page types
- Mobile responsive testing — viewport testing at 375px, 768px, and 1440px breakpoints
- Reduced motion testing — verified all animations disable correctly under
prefers-reduced-motion: reduce - Color contrast verification — all color pairs checked against WCAG 4.5:1 and 3:1 thresholds
Known Limitations
While we strive for full conformance, the following third-party content may have limitations outside our direct control:
- Google Maps embed — The interactive map on our Contact page is provided by Google. Keyboard navigation within the map may have limitations. A text address and phone number are always provided as alternatives.
- Cherry Payment Plans — The "Apply with Cherry" link opens an external website operated by Cherry Technologies. That website's accessibility is the responsibility of Cherry Technologies.
